Tanja Visits Heidi in NYC (July 2008)

My dear friend Tanja came for a visit to NYC. We dined at Tao in Manhattan (it is an awesome restaurant, with an Asian theme, inclusive of a huge Buddha statue, Chinese calligraphy scrolls decorating the ceiling, stone and bamboo themes). Highly recommend this establishment. The pictures shown were all taken by Tanja...we had a marvelous time together.

We also found a scrumptious Vietnamese restaurant, adjacent to the theatre where we saw the funny and adorable Broadway play called Boeing! Boeing!.

Habitat for Humanity, 07 May 2008

On this Wednesday, NYCEA/D participated in an HfH (Habitat for Humanity) event on Roosevelt, Long Island. It was nice to work together knowing that we were helping others. I do not think most of us should quit our day jobs to enter the construction industry, but we did a good job - so we were told. Gabriele and I were happy to lend a hand, while Ingrid and June led the charge with the staple guns. Jan-Philippe Wimmer really got into the swing. Stefan Wiegmann doubted that he would live in a house built by Lufthansa. In his orange shirt Ricardo Bonnet was most obvious. Steve Hargin (in his navy T-shirt) and other NYCEA/D team members did keep busy wrapping the house in Tyvek. The staple gun and the hammer were the most popular tools of the day, allowing some to get out their frustration.

Homage to Elvis Presley, February 2008

In February 2008 I went with my new Lufthansa department (NYCEA/D) in East Meadow (back in the States, as I had transferred back to New York effective 01 January 2008) on a teambuilding event to Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is the birthplace of rockabilly, rock 'n roll and the blues. I truly enjoyed Memphis and all that it has to offer. Graceland and Beale Street, along with the Memphis Zoo and Sun Studio, were the main highlights. Heimzwerg accompanied me. Annette, Heimzwerg and I had fun touring Sun Studio. The photograph above of Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash is one of the most famous in all of rock n' roll history - it was taken on 04 December 1956. B.B. King is yet another famous Memphis personality. I highly recommend a visit to Memphis, Tennessee - it is a living piece of history, along with being lots of fun.

Lufthansa's own Holly Golightly from "Breakfast at Tiffany's"

I wish to show you a simply lovely photo of a most terrific lady at Lufthansa. Her name is Ortrud - she is a very small-boned lady with a powerful Wagnerian-opera sobriquet/moniker. She has such terrific green eyes and is always so fashionably dressed.

Managerial Congratulations for TIGER Project, October 2007

Well, here you can see some of the TIGER project members. Some of my colleagues refer to this picture as the "Flintstone Family Portrait". Hey, it is important to maintain a sense of humor.
By the way, the TIGER project was the first joint Lufthansa (LH) and Swiss (LX) undertaking, and its purpose was to create a joint contract management tool, bearing in mind flexibility and sustainability for the future. It is highly possible that other STAR Alliance partners would conceivably use TIGER as harmonization among the airlines increases.
By the way, the Lufthansa headquarters in Frankfurt is called the Lufthansa Aviation Center. Here is the Web site for further information and a brief overview:

Heidi Gets Hair Trimmed & Good Friend Cristiane Goes to Gym with Heidi on 01 October 2007

Here you can see some pictures of me after my hair has been trimmed...very exciting, I know?! Anyway, it just proves that I sometimes do wear my hair different ways. A picture of my cute friend Cristiane is included - she is Brazilian of German descent. She is a sweetie-pie! She took the pictures with her handy / cellphone.

Föhr (Nordfriesland) Weekend Visit 15-17 September 2007

My Father celebrated his Golden Confirmation (meaning 50 years since he was officially confirmed as a member of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church - St. Nikolai on the island of Föhr, Nordfriesland, Germany with his schoolmates during the weekend 15 through 17 September 2007. Fortunately, I was able to join my parents and other relatives there for a quick visit and family reunion. It was a glorious, fantastic, perfect time! The island is so beautiful and has lovely beaches. It was terrific seeing aunts, uncles and cousins I have not seen for a while. Heimzwerg was able to come along, too, and partake in the festivities.

On a sad and unfortunate note, my Mother had fallen at JFK Airport before boarding the Emirates flight JFK to HAM (Hamburg, for those not familiar with the three-letter airline industry city/airport codes). Therefore, it appears that she has a strange moustache...it is a bruise. My Mother is the paradigm of positivism - nothing keeps her down..."Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down."
I have absolutely amazing parents. I have been truly blessed! I love them so, so, so much!

June Visit to Thai Restaurant with Zwerge

You will now see some photographs of me and my Zwerge (gnomes, for you non-German speakers) at a Thai restaurant in Frankfurt. My friend Sabine took some pictures of us / them enjoying the time at this establishment. I have been writing the "Heimzwerg Tagebuch" for two years now and loving it! I write stories about Heimzwerg and his travels and experiences in the human world.

Shisan Sushi Saturday, 16 June 2007

Tanja is the "Voucher Queen"...there is not a restaurant in Frankfurt for which she does not have a voucher or coupon. This picture captures us postprandially smiling...we devoured the fresh sushi with much gusto. We had tuna, crab, avocado, seaweed salad, etc. - all was delectable...can't you tell from our grins?!

FRA XV/X Teambuilding Event in Toulouse, France on 26 April 2007

Lufthansa's FRA XV/X Department had an educational and interesting experience visiting Airbus in Toulouse, France. We saw the Airbus A380 in various stages of construction, and enjoyed lunch in Toulouse.
In the picture you can see from left to right, going clockwise around the table: Ahlon (the Intern), Cristiane (German-Brazilian), Petra, Annette, Sven, Matthias, Me and Robert.

Birthday Bash in Istanbul (16-19 March 2007)

March brought me to Istanbul, to celebrate my birthday with the best cousin in the world, Stefan, and two of my dearest friends, Sabine and Uwe. Stefan, Uwe and I can be viewed dining on some Turkish delicacies. The food was scrumptious and we enjoyed the exotic nature, the true melange of Europe and Asia, to be found in Istanbul.

"Heidi" seems to be everywhere in the world...what a wonderful coincidence to see a poster advertising Heidi in Istanbul! I love my Heimzwerg, who (yes, he is a "who" and not a "which") Uncle John had lovingly, tenderly and meticulously painted for me. See him in my hand above?

Sabine took all of these pictures, by the way, including the lambent ceiling shot of Madonna and Christ Child in the Hagia Sophia. Magnificient and spiritual, isn't it?

What an adorable pussycat! The mixture of colors, patterns (a bit zebra, a bit tiger, etc.) is quite unique. Sabine endeavoured most diligently to achieve this photograph. You know who cats are...the Egyptians revered them as gods once (in the form of Bastek) and they have never forgotten that!

Istanbul is truly a most interesting city - much history (Hagia Sophia, Sultan Ahmet Mosque, etc.) to offer. The sweets in Turkey are simply indescribably wonderful - superlatives only suffice to describe them. The chocolate is yummy, too.
